Discussion:
[Menai-LUG] Meeting about the meeting ...

A couple of weeks ago I started a thread about doing a formal meeting/seminar.
I've got a few prices, and I've concluded now that this might be doable.

So can I canvas suggestions for a face-to-face meeting to discuss this idea,
as many of you suggested? This would help thrash out what we might have in
the event.

I emphasise that coming to the meeting or being involved in the event will NOT
mean any financial implications for you - all you would be risking is your
time. However, I can't organise something like this on my own, and I need a
half-dozen people I can rely on to help me get things off the ground, and
raise the profile of GNU/Linux/FLOSS in North Wales.

Can I suggest w/b 26 March for the meeting, perhaps in Llandudno? Any other
sugggestions welcome.

The Tues and Weds of that week are right out for me btw. :-/
- but no date will suit everyone, so let's pick a day and
see what happens.

I'd like to come to. Llandudno is no real problem, although I live in
Mold I work In Colwyn Bay. I could only attend out of 'normal' working
hours though, after 6pm most days apart from Wednesday. But go with the
majority.
I'm not really sure whether more people would come to a daytime or evening
meeting (Oli had suggested after 2pm). I could make either, so there's no
reason we couldn't have both, I suppose.

Can I take the plunge and suggest:
Thursday 29 March, Fat Cat, Llandudno, 7pm (evening)
Friday 30 March, Fat Cat, Llandudno, 2pm (daytime).

Can I have views on the above, please? I prefer the Thursday one, but as I
say I'm quite happy to come to another one if there are people who would like
to be involved, and just can't make Thursday.

Any other date suggestions are welcome too, just to make things more
exciting :-)

If we can agree a date, I will post a list of discussion points a few days
before the meeting, to try and ensure we cover most of the ground. After the
meeting, assuming we decide to proceed, I would propose to take detailed
discussion of the seminar arrangements off-list. Any "public-facing"
developments could then be recorded on a website - I have linuxwales.com and
linuxcymru.com for this.
Any thoughts on approaching Rob Gittins at ITWales? Maybe able to assist
with venue / organising. Just a thought.
I agree that would be worth doing once we have broadly agreed on the
contents/audience.
Let us know what date / time / venue for the meeting is decided and if I
can I will come along. Should be interesting having a gathering of
blokes with something recognisable to meet each other, white carnation
or a copy of Linux Format?
Well, I think a live penguin would be de rigueur ....

I'd prefer day (given the right day), with an 11am or 2pm start,
but I'll come to an evening meeting

Not much vegan/figan food on the menu - but sure, I'm happy to meet
there :)

Both days fine with me - as long as we can confirm this quickly enough
for me to sort out childcare arrangements.

I'd offer to bring a live gnu, too, but I don't think pets are allowed
in the Fat Cat =o)

OK - previous dates were:
Thursday 29 March, Fat Cat, Llandudno, 7pm (evening)
Friday 30 March, Fat Cat, Llandudno, 2pm (daytime)

It seems it might suit a couple of people better if we shifted these forward a
day, to:
Wednesday 28 March, Fat Cat, Llandudno, 7pm (evening)
Thursday 29 March, Fat Cat, Llandudno, 2pm (daytime)

Unless I hear a chorus of NOs, I'll take it that the shifted dates (28/29) are
the ones we'll use, and I'll touch base again next week with some discussion
points.
